"What's Next?", 2007

paper, glue, polyfoam, varnish  92" h x 60"w x 8"d  $1800

Tomorrow you'll be brave, you say? Fool! Dive today
From the cliff of what you know into what you can't know.
You fear the rocks? Better men than you have died on them;
Dying on Love's rocks is nobler than a life of death.

--Jalal-ud-Din Rumi, 13th century mystic & poet
   trans. by Andrew Harvey

"What's Next?", a series of 5 bowl shapes forming a large question mark, asks the obvious: what's your next journey, where will it take you, do you have a map, do you dare take a leap and go? This piece was created with old National Geographic maps. The map legends are on the back of each piece.

Exhibited June 29, 2007 - August 4, 2007, "Maps and Journeys", Studio Place Arts, Barre, VT.

Canyonlands: Daybreak, Afternoon Thunder, and Sunset, 2007

paper, polyfoam, varnish 23" diam x 7"d (each bowl)
$850 (for grouping of 3 bowls)

This series of 3 paper bowls was inspired by early Navajo weavings, and one rug in particular which is hanging in my studio. The series is intended as a wall hanging, either vertically or horizontally, but each bowl has a foot so can also be displayed on a flat surface.

Exhibited August 14 - September 22, 2007, "Paint the Gallery Red", Studio Place Arts Gallery, Barre, VT.

December 8 - 23, 2007, "Showcase", Dianne Shullenberger Gallery, Jericho, VT.

Cactus with Hat, 2006

basalt stone, waxed linen  5-1/2" x 4-1/2" x 4"h  $650

I grew up in New Mexico surrounded by incredibly varied cultures and landforms. "Cactus with Hat" refers to the many barrel cactus forms found in the area, the desert green color most apparent after a rain. The black basalt rocks are a reminder of the rich volcanic history clearly visible in the landscape. The hat, of course, is a western necessity.

Exhibited June 16, 2007 through July 14, 2007, "Basketry as an Art Form," Bascom-Louise Gallery at the Fine Art Center, Highlands, North Carolina.

October 3 - November 1, 2006, "Smaller Than A Breadbox", Shelburne Art Center, Shelburne, VT.

CONTEMPORARY BASKETS

"Not a Square Basket"

rattan reed, paper, waxed linen, polyfoam, approx. 12" x 12" x 12"  $85

Inspiration for these one of a kind baskets comes from the abundant dried grasses of Vermont's fall meadows, fields, and wetlands. You may choose to display your basket as artwork or use it to contain apples, colored eggs, fanciful scarves, or whatever your imagination suggests. A variety of colors are possible for the rim and foot. Please contact me for details.
